This semester, we will focus on multiculturalism as both ideology and practice, beginning with Charles Taylor’s essay “The Politics of Recognition.”
In the course of the semester, we will have regular discussions of assigned texts with a focus on writing and presenting summaries and critiques. Chapters in Academic Writing for Graduate Students by Swales and Feak will be the focus of practical work in these areas.
There will be one or two short presentations on course topics, a short critical review essay, and an open-theme final presentation in which students may choose to present their own research projects.
